I think the goofiness of this one saves it from being worse than the fifth movie for me. Robert Englund is clearly having a lot of fun playing a version of Freddy Krueger that's played even sillier than the past couple movies have been, and that certainly helps a lot. Unfortunately, the effects are much worse in this one than the last two films, and the new additions to Freddy's backstory are very unnecessary. Some elements of the third film are also recycled, with the main setting once again being at a mental institution for teenagers. Overall though, this isn't the worst movie in the series for me, but it's not one I think I'd ever return to.

This one was a great change of pace to end off the series. (I know that Freddy vs Jason also counts, but I won't be covering it.) I was surprised to find out that this movie is even more meta than Scream. While the special effects were still worse than the older films, the writing has improved greatly. Wes Craven's full return to this series is very welcome, and helps make this a lot more effective as a horror than the past few movies have been. For me, this is probably my favourite installment since Freddy's Revenge.

The next and final part will cover the first four Scream films.
